Supplement List

There are a wide variety of supplements available that may be of benefit in treating OSA. Of course it's not possible to give your dog all of them. The supplements that you choose will depend on your dog's needs, availability, budget, etc. I personally put together a regime that I felt would be beneficial to Wulf, without causing him any harm.  I have listed many supplements below. It is up to you to decide which ones to give your dog. You should consult with your veterinarian and use your best judgement. In my case, the vets weren't all that familiar with the supplements. They did go over my list to look for anything that might potentially conflict with Wulf's treatment, and they didn't necessarily discourage me from using the supplements.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Also rice and wine vinegars - do not use clear. ½ to 1 teaspoon per 15lbs body weight. Cider vinegar rich in vitamins and minerals normalizes  acid levels in the stomach, improves digestion and assimilation of nutrients, reduces intestinal gas, and fecal odors, etc. .( Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care by CJ Puotinen)

Arginine: (L-Arginine) - an amino acid shown to have some cancer fighting properties when extra supplementation is added to the diet.  Enhances immune function and may inhibit growth of some tumors. (Charles Loop, D.V.M.

May protect against cancer because is acts as a cellular antioxidant. It enhances the immune system by detoxifying certainscarcinogens and by blocking the formation of various carcinogenic compounds created when certain food are digested. (Why is Cancer Killing Our Pets? By Deborah Straw)

Fish Oil: A rich source of Omega 3’s which have been shown to have cancer fighting and preventative effects.  (Charles Loop, D.V.M.)

Flaxseed Oil: "Flaxseed oil is rich in essential fatty acids, particularly ALA, which, when taken in combination with sulfur-rich proteins, actually works to create a new food. Of all the deficiencies that may exist in people with cancer, perhaps those that are most important and totally ignored are EFAs, which, when taken with protein, enhance our albumin levels. Albumin is a blood protein of immense importance to good health. When flaxseed oil and sulfur-rich protein are combined, the ALA and the EFAs in the flaxseed oil become water-soluble and electron-rich; this causes the cell membrane to become more stable by making it more flexible and fluidlike. The electron-rich fatty acids now allow for efficient transport of materials and energy between the inner and outer cell membrane. This is important to the health of all cells and to the entire immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids are extremely important because they modulate prostaglandins, which are very active biological substances important to nearly every bodily function. They suppress tumor-promoting prostaglandin E2 by increasing prostiglandin E3 and suppressing AA. They also inhibit cancer wasting. EPA and ALA, as well as other related omega-3 fatty acids, plus GLA from evening primrose oil, have been found to kill a number of tumor-cell lines and cause a significant reduction in tumor growth in animal studies." Imm-Kine Supplement: Imm-Kine™ is nutritional support for the immune system, muramyl polysaccharide glycan complex (MPGC), a non-toxic purified extract of lactobacillus fermentum and beta-1,3-glucans.  Imm-Kine™ has been shown to have a stimulatory effect on the immune system, to increase the production of interleukins 1, 6 and 12, and to stimulate human lymphocyte proliferation.

Imm-Kine dietary supplement from Allergy Research Group® contains a significant quantity of both an extract of Lactobacillus fermentum, rich in muramyl polysaccharide glycan complex (MPGC) and beta-1,3-glucan.
Imm-Kine provides a potent immune stimulating ingredient (MPGC) that enhances the immune system's ability to maintain good health and inhibit angiogenesis.
Imm-Kine also contains beta-1,3-glucan that also acts as a strong immunostimulator, activating macrophage cytotoxicity.
Research has shown that some polysaccharide components of various plants and bacteria can enhance our body's immune response. The health promoting effects of various mushrooms such as Reishi, Cordyceps, Maitake, and Shitake, used through the millennia in Eastern medicine, are thought to involve their content of beta glucans. Recently similar immunologically potent polysaccharides have been identified in the cell walls of various bacteria. Some have suggested that this ability of bacterial cell wall components to enhance the immune response may be partially responsible for the health benefits of probiotic bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus casei and acidophilus.
Allergy Research Group's® ImmKine contains beta-1,3-glucan and muramyl polysaccharide glucan complex (MPGC), a non-toxic bacterial cell wall extract of gram-positive Lactobacillus fermentum. The immune system identifies muramyl peptides as bacterial products and prepares to enhance immunity. Humoral immunity as well as macrophage cytotoxicity is stimulated, in concert with the heightened secretion of several cytokines including tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, and IL-12. IL-12 secretion from monocytes has a strong effect that involves both an augmentation of natural killer and T cell activity as well as a potent inhibition of angiogenesis.
Many scientific studies have demonstrated the efficacy of muramyl compounds such as MPGC in stimulating the immune system. Another immune stimulating bacterial cell wall analog, muramyl tripeptide phosphatidylethanolamine, improved Kupffer cell function and protected cells in an animal model. Muramyl compound immunostimulators, natural and synthetic, can activate macrophages, thereby supporting the immune system. It is clear that immunostimulators and angiogenesis inhibitors like MPGC may provide an effective dietary adjunctive support to conventional medical therapy.

GLA from evening primrose oil, have been found to kill a number of tumor-cell lines and cause a significant reduction in tumor growth in animal studies. (Herbal Medicine, Healing & Cancer" by Donald Yance)

Pau D’arco: extract of the inner bark of a genus of trees from the South American rainforest. Has been shown to reduce the size of tumors. May interfere with homeopathic remedies according to some homeopaths.

Selenium: An antioxidant in the enzyme selenium- glutathione-peroxidase. It activates the enzyme glutathion peroxidase, which may protect the body against cancer. It also appears to stimulate antibody formation in response to vaccines. Selenium may provide some protection against heavy metal and other toxic substances and may also assist in the synthesis of protein and in growth and development. (Why is Cancer Killing Our Pets? By Deborah Straw)

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) - neutralizes free radicals that cause cancer and that cancer cells release. An anti-oxidant enzyme.

Transfer Factors (Transfer Factor Plus) - extracts of colostrums where the immune factors have been concentrated into a supplement. Much more specific and concentrated than colostrums, but can be used in conjunction with each other.

Curcumin, considered the most bioactive and soothing  portion of the herb tumeric, shows protective effects on the liver. It also inhibits the Cox-II enzyme and is a powerful antioxidant.

VascuStatin dietary supplement from Allergy Research Group® contains a significant quantity of leaf extract of bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis)
VascuStatin provides a potent and immune stimulating dietary ingredient, proteoglycan mixture (PGM).
VascuStatin's PGM in combination with proper nutrition enhances the immune system's ability to maintain good health, resist disease and inhibit angiogenesis.
Native Americans have traditionally used plants like bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) to treat skin ulcers, reducing wound inflammation and swelling. Today we recognize that bindweed's traditional anti-inflammatory use on skin wounds may involve its component proteoglycans. The proteoglycan mixture (PGM) found in bindweed has now demonstrated potential for supporting the body in inhibiting angiogenesis.
Allergy Research Group's® VascuStatin contains a non-toxic extract of bindweed leaf rich in PGM. Recent studies using the chicken egg chorioallantoic membrane assay showed that PGM inhibited angiogenesis in a dose dependent manner. PGM also significantly inhibited abnormal cellular growth in a mouse model. PGM's effectiveness was apparent with oral, subcutaneous, intravenous, or intraperitoneal routes of administration.
PGM has also demonstrated potent immune stimulating properties. Lymphocyte proliferation and phagocyte activity increased with PGM administration in a recent in vitro study. Through range of concentration medium of 0 to 100 mcg/ml of PGM, lymphocyte proliferation and activity increased 46 to 85%, respectively.
PGM's effectiveness may depend upon its ability to disrupt the biological balance between the specific cytokines, such as interleukin 8 and platelet activating factor 4, respectively. Excess secretion of cytokines from specific cells can speed their neovascularization, and growth. Proteoglycan proteins can bind and inactivate the above mentioned cytokines. PGM may provide an effective adjunctive support to conventional medical therapy by promoting the host's own immune defenses.
Two (2) capsule contain:500 mg Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) leaves extract 20 mg Maltodextrin
Vitamin E: Boosts the efficiency of the heart and circulatory systems. (Why is Cancer Killing Our Pets? By Deborah Straw)

Also assists healthy immune responses. At higher levels, it fights in appropriate immune responses. . (Keeping Your Dog Healthy the Natural Way by Pat Lazarus)

Willard Water: Adding one ounce per gallon of drinking water seems to facilitate the removal of heavy metals from the system. May be useful  in helping to detoxify while undergoing cancer therapy. (Charles Loop, D.V.M.)

Some physicians have reported that Willard Water prevents burns in radiation therapy patients, both when sprayed on the skin and when taken internally without external application. The internal and external application of Willard Water speeds the healing of cuts, burns, surgical wounds, scars, most skin conditions, poison ivy rashes, cataracts, conjunctivitis, and other infections.
